My 9 year old cat has a loose tooth. One of the big fangs on the top.?

My 9 year old female cat has her right fang loose. We have always taken care of her medically and dental. No serious injuries have ever happened to her and she gets checked up once a year or every 18 months depending on finances current vaccines and all that jazz. Since it is loose and she can still eat but she doesn't like it to be touched. Is it normal for her age She is approximately 9 and a half years old. Do I wait for it to come out on its own so it is less painful for her or take her to the vet.

Me ... I'd take her to the vet. My old man, Harley, is about 12 years old. I'm aware his teeth are in poor shape and is likely the cause of his pronounced heart murmor. I've had him on a "dental" diet for the last year. He's shown no signs of loose teeth nor wanting to be touched. He's just his regular snuggly self.

I suspect your cat could be susceptible to an infection of some sort. Best get it checked out.

When an animal's teeth begin to go bad (for varying reasons -- be it diet or genetic), their immune system becomes at risk. The vet I spoke with explained it in much greater detail than what I can convey to you, but in short what happens is an infection from the teeth or gums from a cat gets in the bloodstream which can affect just about anything and everything. It's the same with us humans. As in my cat's case, his heart. I wish you the best. Hope you keep us posted.
Reply:I take her to the vet!
Reply:Id take her to the vet and let them asses the situation, it maybe infected hence she dosent want you to touch it, in a cat that age an infection can cause BIG problems
Reply:The vet should see her and see if the tooth can be saved. Those fangs are structurally important. If it is too late, the vet can remove it. Don't wait for it to get infected or something.
Reply:I would take her to the vet. How would you like it if you were the one with the loose tooth? We have a male cat that was missing a fang when we got him about 4 years ago. He is about 8 now and is doing fine without it.
Reply:i would take to vets as prob get infected then it will cost more on medicine, then she can eat without the pain,as tooth ache hurts us,might be same for them
Reply:thiis happened to my cat, it was loose and we left if for a couple of weeks to see if it would come out but it didnt, and he was drooling a little, so the vet took it out, it cost $60
