My mother has a loose tooth and wants me to pull it out, should I?

She has no wisdom teeth. It is her second molar on the upper right side of her mouth. It is responsible for securing one corner of her partial. She is homeless and has no healthcare. The Molar has a gold crown on it. She says that all a Dentist would do would be to pull it anyway. Is this a good idea?

As long as you are prepared to control her bleeding, in the event that she should have a problem. Oh, and be ready to repair a perforation into her sinus, which can happen with upper molars. Or, watch out for those pesky thin distal-buccal roots that tend to break if you use too much force in the wrong direction.

If it's THAT loose, let her take it out herself so she can't blame you for causing her the post-op problems. If she can't take it out herself, dont' even think about trying it yourself. Too much can go wrong.

Otherwise, read the three answers above mine and choose the best one for your situation. Maybe a hospital emergency room can offer charity care for a situation like this.
Reply:Nope. It might cause an absess.

Go to your local community center and see if someone there can help. Lots of places provide free medical care to the homeless, and she really needs to be treated by a medical professional.
Reply:Find a free dental clinic in your area. The risk of infection is not something you want to deal with.
Reply:Pay for her to go to the dentist. She could get a wicked infection if you go digging in her mouth; also, if she is homeless it is possible that she has Hep C or any other blood born pathogen. So you really want to start hacking at her mouth?
Reply:No! She needs that tooth to anchor her partial.

Get her to a clinic as soon as you can. If that is impossible you can pull it if it is loose enough. Just know that she will not only lose that tooth but the tooth or teeth that make up her partial.

I am so sorry for her predicament
Reply:I would do it just put some duck tape over the pliers ends %26amp; rince with alcohol to clean them, I'd use vice grip kind, be very gental when setting the tension, make sure it has a good hold, but not to hard that it breaks the tooth, u'll never all the tooth. a sailine soultion or bild water with some salt in it to stop the bleeding, then stuff the hole with a stairil swap
Reply:No no no and no. That will cause more trouble than keeping it, besides the infection, more injuries and pain for your mom. Si vives en Chile te podria ayudar más.

Reply:Sounds like it needs to be pulled but only by someone who know's what they're doing. Contact local health centers, county hospitals, etc. to see if they can do it or refer you to someone who can help your mom.
