Why does my tooth feel loose and hurt?

one of my top teeth have been hurting and it feels a little loose...what does that mean? would I have to have it pulled or something else to it? my parents say that my tooth might be hollow or have a really bad cavity and thats the reason why my tooth feels like its loose. I haven't been to the dentist yet b/c I have no insurance or money to pay for my visit. oh um...would grinding against that tooth make it even more loose? help me out please, I don't wanna have to have it pulled I mean I'm only 20 :(.

Why does my tooth feel loose and hurt?
First of all teeth are not rigidly fused to the bone so a very little movement under finger pressure is normal . Other than that here are the choices

1. tooth is dead with an abscess -would need root canal or extraction

2. tooth is broken -would need root canal and crown.

3. tooth is being knocked around in its socket during chewing ,nail biting ,or during sleep (bruxism) -would need a little grinding

4. tooth has lost its supporting tissues thru periodontal disease .-would need evaluation for splinting or extraction.

You need a dental exam at the very least -try public health service or a dental school you may have in area
Reply:When a tooth loosens and doesn't tighten up again in time, it probably means the nerve is dying [thus the pain].

You should see your dentist immediately. Report It

Reply:Something is wrong.
