If the 2nd tooth is not loose, it most likely needs to be taken out by your dentist

It probably needs help.

The permanent tooth usually lies directly under the baby tooth to resorb or eat away at the baby tooth's root, thereby making it loose. If the positioning is off, this resorption process will not occur, and the root will remain long - thus, the tooth will not loosen.

If the baby tooth remains, and the permanent tooth erupts behind it....it can cause malpostioning of the teeth....better to take that sucker out sooner then later....

Slight malpositioning is no big deal, since tongue pressure will naturally help in pushing the permanent tooth into the right position.
Reply:Absolutely normal, but you might want to take her for a dental checkup just to be sure the teeth are alingned properly and coming in straight.
Reply:Sounds fine and dandy to me.
Reply:My rule of thumb is that, if the permanent tooth is "half the distance" to the top edge of the baby tooth, the baby tooth has to be removed. Now, if it's literally hanging by a thread, it's no big deal, but if it's not extremely loose, you ought to have it taken out.
