My 5 year old has a loose tooth. I can wiggle it and it will feel more loose, but then later when I wiggle it, it doesn't feel as loose as it did before. Is it normal for teeth to become "less loose"? I'm especially curious because there is a permanent tooth coming in behind this one and the dentist says her baby tooth needs to come out before her permanent tooth comes in fully.

Yes, it's normal. You probably don't need to keep wiggling it -- your child will naturally wiggle it with her tongue and it will come out when she bites down on some food sooner or later.
One other thought: sometimes -- not very often -- a baby tooth will have a part of its root that has not resorbed as they normally do as new teeth come in. That one little root part will make it near impossible for the normal process to take place. Even a gentle pull from you may not be enough. If this is what's happening, the baby tooth will likely look crooked in the mouth.
If that's what you are experiencing, let the dentist get an x-ray to see if he needs to help it along with a little novocaine and the proper tools. Better to do that than to hurt you daughter (and create fear of dental pain) or cause other problems by blocking the eruption of the permanent tooth.
However, she is only 5 -- chances are that time will take care of this without any intervention.
Reply:oh lord, stop wiggling the tooth, what you do is cause swelling in the surrounding tissues so it feels less loose, and you delay it's coming out. Just leave it alone, or have the dentist pull it out.
Reply:dont worry it's fine
it's normal
