My 4-year old daughter fell, has loose tooth?

At daycare today, my daughter fell into a toy bin, bloodied her lip, and when I went to look at her teeth, I felt one of the front top ones wiggle. It's not extremely loose but it definitely moved. She will see the dentist tomorrow. Has anyone else's child gone through this? Was the tooth saved? Did it turn grey? Can it really sort of "reattach"? And finally, what age do kids normally lose their baby teeth?

Thank you!

I worked for a pediatric dentist for 20+ years and this happens several times a week. Do not panic the tooth is most likely already partially reabsorbed and in the process of exfoliating {coming out} her age would suggest that %26gt; The trauma should be looked at by a dentist and an xray of the upper and lower is recommended just to insure there is no unseen root fractures etc. some doctors will take a follow up xray in 30 days or so. If the tooth is terribly loose he will probably extract it the bigger worry though not a huge one is if the trauma was such that the root of the baby tooth hit against the developing permanent tooth . this can cause a spot to form on the permanent tooth that will replace the baby tooth this could also happen if the other teeth were hit that will replace the teeth that are not loose. Don't panic this is easily fixed with a minor cosmetic "filling" and should not interfere with the normal development . If the tooth has to be extracted its fine she will be slightly delayed in getting her permanent replacement but it will come nevertheless a spacer is usually not necessary in the front teeth and in my opinion a Dr who suggests one is practicing overkill and treating the mom. If a primary {baby} tooth in the back is lost prematurely a spacer is most defiantly indicated. Anyway, its all fixable though I would not put off your dental appointment Hope this helps

Reply:This actually happened to me when I was younger and knocked one of my front teeth on a slide. As long as the tooth that is loose is a baby tooth, than she should be fine, and the tooth can come out normally, but there may still be some sort of problem like a cracked tooth, so you still should get her checked out.
Reply:This happened to my brother when he was 3. Yes, his tooth did turn gray, but did not fall out. It got less gray and less gray and almost back to its normal color in about a year. I would say kids usually lose their baby teeth from age 5-12.
Reply:I just saw a case like this last week, except the child was two and the tooth was completely intruded! If there was a lot of trauma to the tooth it can certainly turn grey (nerves and blood vessels inside die) in which case they may extract the tooth because it will be coming out round age six or they may do a root canal on the tooth and crown it to save it. It is important to save baby teeth until they are pushed out by the adult teeth because baby teeth maintain enough space for the adult teeth to come in. It all depends on how the tooth looks clinically and also on an Xray! Good luck!
Reply:my son lost his first baby tooth when he was 4 naturally. the dentist said it was normal. kids loose their teeth at different ages he has only lost 2 more since the and that was 2 years ago.
Reply:the baby teeth come out around age 6 or 7.
Reply:More than likely you can expect the dentist to TRY to take an x-ray, but won't force it if she's not interested. They'll probably leave the tooth alone and explain to you it may die. You'll want to look for the tooth turning gray or a pimple looking thing above it (you may have to lift the lip up to see the abscess), or if she complains about the tooth hurting. These are signs that they tooth will need to be taken out. Most of the time the tooth will become less mobile in the next week. Most children will lose this tooth around 6 or7 years old.
Reply:It is actually very common for teeth to become loose when they are hit. Generally the loose teeth will tighten back up in a couple of days or so. Occasionally the tooth will turn either greyish or brownish. This is due to the nerve being damaged. Don't worry too much over these teeth. Children lose those teeth between 6-7 yrs of age.
Reply:My neice did that. yep, it turned grey. But it wasn't too awful looking. Anyway, baby teeth begin to some out at age 5, but thise are usually the lower ones. Maybe by 3rd grade?
